Buhari - I firmly believe in NYSC

President Muhammadu Buhari has pledged that his administration is committed to taking all necessary action in maintaining the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.

He made this known on Wednesday 5th August, after receiving a briefing from a delegation of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development led by Mrs.  Rabi Jimeta, the Permanent Secretary; saying that the NYSC programme was still relevant for national integration and unity and also expressed his trust that the objectives of its formation in 1973 was still very relevant.
Rightly commenting on the issue, Buhari said, “I firmly believe in NYSC and I think it should remain a national programme to promote integration.

Whenever I go home to Daura, I look out for Corps members from Lagos, Aba and other parts of the country and I am always thrilled to learn that except for the NYSC, some of them have never left their states of origin to visit other cities in the country.”
Jimeta had earlier on brought to the notice of the president the increasing number of participants in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)n scheme which is posing a challenge to the scheme due to the dwindling revenue accruing from the national budget which is failing  to cater for their needs.
