Trending on
social media now is the issue of the purported increase in the federal
government monthly allowance of National Youth Service Corps members.
Hardly will you visit any forum of
corps members on the internet without seeing multiple posts in that line either
trying to pull the legs of members or trying to insinuate something they think
should be the right thing to be done by Mr. President at the moment.
We hear different things like “the
‘allawee’ has been increased from N19,800 to N49,800” while others leave it at a modest N39,800. Some bloggers have also not helped issues as they have
gone to the extent of publishing false and misleading information with some
illegal ‘proofs’ about the increase on them. Some corps members have also
posted things that suggest they already have it all sorted out with all the
information they need to be sure that the rumours were true.
So the big question follows – does
this matter warrant all these noise being made about it or not? Is it worth all
the anxiety being accorded it?
Common sense should tell us that if
such thing is on the table, it can never be a hidden news or agenda; even the
birds will carry the news. Such things should not be a clandestine idea that
will keep us refreshing social media web pages; our national dailies and the
electronic media will surely pounce on this kind of information and do a great
job of making sure that every ant on the street gets a wind of the information
even before the bloggers get such news.
So for the benefit of our corps
members, please relax and enjoy the little allowance you have now, zero your
mind concerning the ‘allawee increase’
to save yourself the trauma and heart attack that comes with this kind of
rumours. The increase will come when it will come and there is absolutely
little or nothing you can do about it; so relax and serve your nation – Under
the Sun or in the Rain!
