Facebook to test ‘sad’ and ‘angry’ buttons on their sites; rejects ‘dislike’ button

Fb dislike button
Most times I’ve had some kind of reactions to someone’s post or comments on facebook and I was like, “why does facebook has no so and so button?” I know I’m not alone in this, that many of us have been there, but not to worry, facebook will soon start testing some new features which can allow its users to show or express some certain range of emotions while they update their status or comment on any post. But a bit of the little unfortunate thing is that they have said that there will not be any ‘dislike’ button.

Facebook recently said in a statement, “we are testing Reactions, an extension of the ‘like’ button, to  give you more ways to share your reactions to a Facebook post in a quick and easy way.” The world’s largest social network, Facebook, have been pressed for years to launch a ‘dislike’ button to make up for the existing ‘like’ button which helps users show that they like the post.

A trial had already begun in Ireland and Spain which allowed users to select six emotions as well as the ‘like’ button on their posts which included: sad, angry, love, yay, wow and haha.
When contacted on this, Mark Zukerberg, Facebook Chief Executive said, “users wanted the ability to express empathy because not every moment is a good moment.” “

Now, it’s a much broader range of human emotions you can express, Reactions would give users greater ways of engaging with stories and contents” said Chris Toss, Facebook product manager, as spoke to the Irish national broadcaster RTE.  He also said that the social network decided a ‘dislike’  button would not ‘add value’ to the site.

For social network algorithms, ‘liking’ something especially on facebook has a way of engaging users with stuff they like  and also provides for targeted advertising. Toss continuing also said, “if you are coming for humorous content and saying ‘haha’ to lots of funny cat videos, down the road we might use that to show you more cat videos, but as of the initial test, you won’t see any of that”.

Jumia Nigeria ‘Collabos’ with MTN Nigeria for Complete Zero Free Data

The biggest and fastest-growing online shopping mall in Africa – Jumia, has collaborated with MTN Nigeria to dole out a zero-data app called Jumia zero-data app. This was done in  a bid to reducing data costs which, of course, is the greatest Goliath facing mobile internet access in Nigeria.

JumiaIn recognition of the above fact, Jumia’s Zero Data app will offer, for free, a full access to online shopping on the app provided it was run on a device using and MTN sim.

Commenting on this development, the CEO of Jumia Africa, Mr. Martin Nicholas said, “we are proud of this new partnership with MTN that will undoubtedly lead to an increasing value for our customers. We believe that a better internet access and even more mobile will foster economic development for both small businesses and Nigeria as a whole; therefore, in  order to provide the best customer experience, it is time for jumia to make its services available for more people anywhere at any given time.”

One can download the Jumia app free of charge and enjoy zero data access charges while roaming about on the Jumia online shop for various products; other sites like Kaymu and Jovago can be accessed through this app.

So what are you waiting for? Download the Jumia app on your phone using your MTN sim or send JUMAPP to 131 (SMS) to get the download link.
