Thank God you made it by passing your JAMB and reaching the
cut-off marks of your choice institution; but there is still a very heavy and
high hurdle to cross. You might not
know, but hundreds of thousands of students are still jostling for that
admission slot you are envying. So you need an added advantage that will give
you an extra edge over them as the purpose of that screening is the get the
best out of the best of all the students that applied for admission in the institution.
Since it is no longer news that Post UTME exams is now the
order of the day in Nigeria before one can be eligible to be admitted in any
higher institution of learning in Nigeria just prepare your mind to scale through
the Post-UTME exams as this can be a
daunting task considering the intricacies and logistics that hugely underscores
it. So for one to be sure of his high marks that will guarantee him admission
into any Nigerian higher institution of learning especially UNN, which we are
using here as a case study, you must be
able and willing to do the following:
1.
CHANGE YOUR MINDSET
This is very important especially if you have ever tried writing the PUTME before but did not reach the desired cut-off marks for your choice course of study. You need to understand that this is a whole new start and another fresh opportunity for you to grab what you are seeking for.
Even if you have not written before,
prepare your mind very well knowing that this is a fresh endeavour for you and
it is not as hard as you may have heard or anticipated. If you do what you need
to do and follow some of the other things that I will still tell you, nothing
can stand on your way to gaining your desired admission.
2.
COVER YOUR JAMB SYLLABUS
Truth be told, students are now so
lazy to read and they in turn expect high marks in their exams. Let me
categorically state here that this will not work; so first things first: make
sure that you have covered the topics and notes on them as stipulated in your JAMB
syllabus.True, you must have attempted this
to an extent and that is why you reached the school cut-off marks but you
really need to give it a more detailed attention since you are fighting for a
very important thing.
3.
SOLVE A LOT OF PAST QUESTIONS
In addition to covering your syllabus, you need to try out your hands with JAMB past questions. A school like UNN have been known to draw its PUTME questions directly from JAMB past questions. I must confess this really helped me a lot. If you diligently bulldoze those questions and have them at the very tips of your fingers, it will save you a whole lot of time in the exam proper – making it much like one of your practice sessions.

Be sure to also check out how the school sets its previous exams by also looking for their past questions and studying them. for UNN, the one specified

4.
ACCLIMATIZE WITH THE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT
This is very important. Make sure you leave for the school for at least one week before the exam, especially if you have not been to the school before or ever taken PUTME. This singular act has a lot of psychological impact. It can be a serious motivating factor as proximity to the system can be a huge advantage. Here, you can easily have access to information which flies like wildfire among students in the school.
Moreso, use this period to know your way
around the school, your exam procedures and schedules, your exam centre and
whatever may be of essential help to you during the exam.
5.
CONDUCT YOURSELF IN THE EXAM HALL
Also have it at the back of your mind that hundreds of thousands of people are jostling for a limited number of admission slots; so the institution will devise a number of tricks and devices to shove off a lot of people. I know a lot of people who prepared very well, did everything that was supposed to be done but just one flimsy thing denied them the fruit of their labour. Resist every temptation to flout their orders or cheat in the hall or jump around in the hall; I promise you, UNN lecturers will not waste time in tearing your script and sending you out of the exam hall and sincerely, that will be all for you if you are caught in any misconduct.
6.
EXCEPT THE LORD BUILDS A HOUSE
No matter what ever preparation you have made, God has the final say. The Holy Book says, “Except the Lord Builds a house, the builders build in vain’. You need to crown your efforts with prayers for God desires to favour you.
Thanks for dropping by and I believe this would
help you. Watch out for other helps and updates on the registration, directives
and the buildup to the Post UTME on this blog (especially if you applied for UNN). We
will sure keep you posted. Good luck!
